Travis - New EP

NEW 3 TRACK EP
DOWNLOAD AND 10” VINYL
RELEASED ON RED TELEPHONE BOX RECORDS ON JUNE 30th

Travis are back with a new release on their own label.

The three track EP will be released on Red Telephone Box, the label on which Travis released their debut EP, All I Want To Do Is Rock, in 1996. Fran Healy, who turned designer for their debut, has once again provided the artwork. The EP will available for download and on limited edition 10” vinyl.

Produced by Emery Dobyns (Antony & The Johnsons, Patti Smith, Battles), the three songs were recorded in London’s Rak Studios and mixed in New York at Electric Lady Studios. The EP kicks off with J Smith, the title track from the forthcoming album Ode To J Smith, described by Fran as a 3 minute rock opera, it enlists the talents of The Crouch End Festival Chorus to add some epic scale to Travis's rockiest outing since their debut EP All I Want To Do Is Rock. Also included are Get Up and Sarah, the latter being unavailable elsewhere.

All Travis fans who buy from travisonline.com will be able to purchase the 10" for £3.49 or an exclusive bundle of the 3 track digital download and a signed copy of the 10" vinyl for only £3.99. This pre-order is available now!

Ode to J Smith is now complete and scheduled for release in the autumn. Details will be announced shortly. Meanwhile Travis make a one off appearance at the JJB Arena at V Festival on August 16th (Stafford) and August 17th (Chelmsford).

Independents Day 2008

Independents Day 08

INDEPENDENT MUSIC FOR INDEPENDENT MINDS

Over the weekend of 4th July we will be dancing to the tune of the world’s independent music scene as it unites for Independents Day 08.

This is the first ever global celebration of independent music, a sector first home to artists including The Beatles, Elvis and Coldplay and still home to the likes of Radiohead, Vampire Weekend, Arctic Monkeys and Bjork.

The Albums

Along with a special double album and a series of specially commissioned TV programmes we are delighted to present this music auction, giving collectors and fans of some of the world’s most interesting artists a once-in-a-lifetime chance to grab a piece of musical history.

The Auctions

Going under the hammer are musical rarities, money-can’t-buy experiences and personal artist collectibles. The auction presents an opportunity for the industry to raise money for charity as well as putting a unique spotlight on the companies, special qualities and talents which exist in the indie sector.

The Stone Gods - Album Incoming!

Funeral For A Friend - New Single Incoming!

‘Waterfront Dance Club / Beneath The Burning Tree'
double A-side single out July 14th 2008
Join Us Records

Three gold selling albums. nine Top 20 singles. Half a decade of global touring taking in Singapore, Thailand, Australasia, Japan, America and every corner of Europe. Twenty plus magazine front covers. FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND are truly a phenomenon.

And in 2008 they are embarking on the greatest part of their adventure yet. They have formed their very own record label, the bullishly titled Join Us Records. Funded by Ingenious Music and built on Integral’s (a division of PIAS) formidable infrastructure, this is a move that has energised and excited the Welsh quintet in equal measure.

“We were fortunate to be on a major label for the past five years,” says bassist Gareth Davies, “Now we are in a great position to take the time investment that they have already put into us, and walk away, and start afresh, with a clean slate and with the fanbase already in place. This is a great stepping stone for us.”

‘Waterfront Dance Club’ and ‘Beneath The Burning Tree’ will be Funeral For A Friend’s fans first chance to hear the newly invigorated band’s current sound. Drawing fire from the muscular intensity of their earlier material and melding it seamlessly to the melodic intelligence of latter albums ‘Hours’ and ‘Tales Don’t Tell Themselves’, this new material shows the band to be as incisively relevant as ever. WDC will be available as a free download from July 14 and both tracks will grace a limited edition 7” from the same date.

Now with their own hands at the tiller, FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND look destined to add another scintillating chapter to their incredible story.

Catch the guys at one of their following UK dates:

Jun 28 - Woodstock, WAKESTOCK FESTIVAL
Jun 30 - Manchester, Academy 3
Jul 1 - Glasgow, King Tuts
Jul 2 - London, Kings College
Jul 4 - Newport, TJ's
Jul 5 - Abersoch, WAKESTOCK FESTIVAL
Jul 6 - Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, ZOO THOUSAND & EIGHT FESTIVAL

Crystal Castles Vs Timbaland

I'm not one to fuel the fires of internet speculation, but ....

It seems Timbaland has been getting a little "creative" in the studio, However it appears that he has not necessarily been using all his own ideas ...

New Music Monday

Another monday morning, another selection of not new releases ...

Albums
Angus and Julia Stone

Enchanting, Fran Healey (Travis) produced, debut album from the Australian siblings who specialise in low key, acoustic based folk. Brilliant harmonies and story telling abound as they masquerade as a latter day Paul Simon and Edie Brickell respectively. The duo have just finished supporting their friend Newton Faulkner on his UK tour and go out again in April on an extensive 20 date headline UK tour culminating at a sold out show at the Scala. Radio 2 and 6 music and extensive press support.

Frank Turner
Ex Million Dead frontmans second solo album. Following the same folk-punk blueprint of last years 'Sleep Is For The Weak' this is a further statement of intent. Features to run in the all the metal mags but a major press piece will run next week in the Independent Music Mag, plus reviews throughout the broadsheets. Specialist support on Radio 1, XFM and 6 Music

Black Dog
The First new album in two years from the legendary ex-Warp techno originator. Tough and uncompromising in places, the beats are faster and the basslines heavier. An electronic treat. Update attached

Tracks
Felix Da Housecat
Japanese producer Shinichi Osawa reworks the best track from Housecats third album into a killer slice of 'radio' friendly electro-soul. Zane Lowe's Hottest Record In The World Right Now and Pete Tong's Essential New Tune.

The Accidental
A delightful little single and the first fruits of a new nu-folk supergroup including members of Tunng and The Memory Band

Rosie Taylor Project
The latest in a fine line of talent unearthed by Leeds label Bad Sneakers, home to The Sugars, Middleman and Wild Beasts (before Domino poached them) Touches of Field Music and British Sea Power amidst the indie-folk leanings on show here

[PIAS] Storm SXSW

SXSW is increasingly important in the musical calendar, with BBQs and beer causing havoc around Austin, and this year saw a crop of [PIAS] bands make a splash.

Free Blood

We've been fans of these guys for a while, and their early EPs make compelling listening. Seems like everyone else is starting to catch on too!

White Denim

They stormed their hometown at SXSW, with the crowds increasing each time they played! The NME love them!

Enter Shikari

In my opinion still the best live band in the UK, the relentless march of world domination continues, with an almost endless touring schedule! SXSW saw them confounding expectations and making lots of new friends!

http://strangeglue.com/news/sxsw-2008-live-enter-shikari

Neon Neon

A concept album? A supergroup? More than that ... A unique live show, and arguably the finest album of 2008 so far. Next stop Sonar!

Yeasayer

An integral part of the "brookyln explosion" along with Vampire Weekend. Yeasayer are simply amazing live, transforming "All Hour Cymbals" into a unique and cinematic experience. The band recently blew minds at the ICA in London, and SXSW was another triumph!

Another year another SXSW triumph for the Pigeon Detectives ... We have the new album and its awesome! Watch this space for more news.

The Answer - Rawking onto Guitar Hero

The Answer have recently been snapped up to appear in the next Guitar Hero game. Whilst that game is being finely hewn from the hardest of rock, The Answer have become ambassadors for Guitar Hero III across Europe.

And here are the Answer introducing the competition:

There is a lot more to follow on this ... So watch this space.

The Futureheads "Beginning Of The Twist"

Crystal Castles

Ever since we first heard Crystal Castles we have been in love with them. They are a pure blast of unadulterated punk rock fury. The only problem is that their punk sounds like dance.

Abrasiveness is offset by harmony, and dare we say it "songs".

The band are currently smashing their way around the world, taking no prisoners, and probably a few hostages.

The album was released on 28th February in the UK.

Crystal Castles "Alice Practice"

Neon Neon "I Lust You"

Neon Neon - Stainless Style

The peerless Neon Neon full length album is finally here.

"Stainless Style" is a concept album based around the illustrious life and times of John Delorean. Please don't be put off by the words "concept" and "album", this is a heady brew of influences that covers booty shaking hip hop, electrominca and 80's new wave.

The band recently slayed SXSW in Austin, and continue to steam roller through perceptions as they criss cross the globe on tour ...
